“What they are threatening will simply happen.” Bosak comments on EU survey

“25 percent of Poles believe that we should not be in the Union. This has increased fivefold over the past seven years. If at this pace, more foolish and costly ideas that destroy the economy and civil liberties continue to be imposed on Poles, what they are threatening will simply happen. The biggest allies of eurosceptic movements are beginning to be the eurocrats,” said Krzysztof Bosak, Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, today on TV Republika.

Today, in the program “First Conversation of the Day” on TV Republika, Deputy Marshal of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak was asked about Confederation’s stance on Poland’s presence in the EU and the unfavorable comments on this matter from the ruling camp.

“Populism is trying to divide Polish society along PR- and sociologically-engineered lines of conflict. Today, the real problems are drawing us into increasingly radical climate policies, pulling us into the mechanism of joint EU debt, involving us in the migration pact, and engaging us with Mercosur. On these issues, the government either does nothing or acts ineffectively. They want to distract us from what they do ineffectively and focus our attention on a spectacle of accusations and divisions,” said Bosak.

Allies of eurosceptics are eurocrats

Asked about a recent survey on Poland’s presence in the EU, in which 24.7 percent of Poles supported Polexit, the Deputy Marshal pointed out that this percentage has increased fivefold over the past seven years.

“If at this pace, more foolish and costly ideas that destroy the economy and civil liberties continue to be imposed on Poles, what they are threatening will simply happen. The biggest allies of eurosceptic movements are beginning to be the eurocrats. In their arrogance and self-absorption, they do not see that they are causing the shift in public sentiment,” stated the Confederation politician.

He added that “the level of criticism toward Brussels’ policies has been growing for a long time.”

“At the moment, regarding positive and negative assessments of EU actions, according to American studies in Poland, we are at 50:50. Roughly half of Poles view EU actions negatively. Half of them still want to remain in the EU, but it is ‘remain and grit your teeth,’ not ‘remain because it’s great.’ The process of change is underway,” he noted.

“Poles have been deceived”

He praised the Czech government’s initiative, which decided not to adopt measures arising from the ETS2 system. However, he recommended patience in assessing Prague’s effectiveness. Asked about actions that, for example, the presidential camp in Poland should take on this issue, he replied:

“The most important thing is first to inform the public, because over the last two decades Poles have been deceived about the effects of European policies. The consequences are that we have some of the highest energy prices in Europe, rapidly rising heating costs, increasing transport and construction costs, a decline in electricity availability in industry, and looming challenges for which no one has a clue how to cover the costs, whether in terms of modernizing power grids, building a nuclear power plant, or constructing offshore wind farms.”
