“If I were an MP who does nothing, who simply exists and that’s it, I wouldn’t have any problems in the party,” said Paulina Matysiak, expelled from the Razem party. “I’d be just one of many parliamentarians who are there simply because they are. No one pays attention to them, they cause no trouble, they don’t force anyone to think. They just collect their parliamentary allowance and enjoy their peace of mind,” Matysiak stated. She will now sit in parliament as an independent MP, but she intends to appeal the party board’s decision.
She intends to appeal the decision
Matysiak noted that the Razem party board obtained the authority to expel her only last weekend during the party congress. “An amendment to the statute was introduced giving the leadership precisely this power,” she pointed out. The board’s decision can be appealed to the National Council, which may overturn or uphold the expulsion.
But will Matysiak actually pursue this? “Yes, I will. I will appeal this decision because I believe I have been treated unfairly,” she said.
According to her, differing views on politics should be a normal thing. “It’s not as if everyone everywhere thinks the same way. The dispute that ended with my expulsion from Razem simply concerns differences in how politics should be conducted,” she added.
“Even if some of the actions I took may have raised doubts for some people, I want to clearly state that they always stemmed from concern for people — from faith in Poland and a desire to see our country grow,” Matysiak said.
“If I did nothing, I’d have no problems”
“I will continue working just as I have until now. My voters expect from me first and foremost work, work, and more work — not some Jacobin-style ideological purity,” said the MP from Kutno.
She also reiterated that if she were an MP who does nothing and simply “sits there,” she would have absolutely no issues within the party. “I’d be one of many parliamentarians who are there just because they’re there. No one pays attention to them, they cause no trouble, they don’t make anyone think. They just collect their allowance and enjoy their peace,”Matysiak repeated.
She also announced that she intends to continue working in the Sejm as an independent MP.
