During a demonstration in Warsaw, Piotr Duda indicated which politician — in his view — keeps his promises. The NSZZ Solidarność trade union backed President Karol Nawrocki’s referendum initiative concerning EU climate policy.
On Wednesday, a march organized by NSZZ Solidarność under the slogan “Together for Poland and Poles” moved through the streets of Warsaw. The demonstration began at Castle Square and headed toward the Sejm, where speeches were delivered.
“Outside the Presidential Palace, I said that we have politicians in our country who keep their word,” said Piotr Duda, chairman of NSZZ Solidarność.
Then he named the politician in question.
“That politician is President Karol Nawrocki. In the program agreement with Solidarity, he pledged that he would ask the Senate to hold a referendum on climate policy. This demand is very important — it concerns all of us. It concerns miners, steelworkers, teachers, healthcare workers — every profession in our country,” Duda stated.
It should be recalled that at the beginning of May, President Karol Nawrocki submitted a motion to the Senate requesting that a referendum on EU climate policy be held on September 27 this year.
The question proposed by the president for the referendum reads:
“Are you in favor of implementing climate policies that have led to an increase in citizens’ living costs, energy prices, and the costs of running businesses and farms?”
The Senate is expected to decide whether the referendum will take place.
