Will the issue of the National Recovery Plan (KPO) harm Donald Tusk’s government? Poles have no doubt

As many as 72.9 percent of survey participants claim that the matter of the National Recovery Plan for restaurants and hotels could harm Donald Tusk’s government. An opposing view is held by 22.7 percent of respondents. In short – the December 13 Coalition has a problem.

The controversy concerns grants for “diversification of activity” for companies in the HoReCa sector. Entrepreneurs received KPO funding for yachts or coffee machines, and there was no shortage of absurd projects such as a tanning salon in a pizzeria or funding for a swingers’ club. Poles are furious at how public money is being squandered. The Minister of Funds, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, announced the suspension of payments, adding that they would resume after the contracts are verified. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has launched an investigation into the use of Polish KPO funds in the HoReCa sector.

A survey published in Friday’s Rzeczpospolita shows that half (53.9 percent) of the voters of the current ruling camp believe that spending KPO funds on the HoReCa industry will harm the government, while 39.8 percent of them disagree. “The most critical are Left voters (91 percent of its electorate believes this issue will harm the government), followed by those voting for Third Way (68 percent), and finally PO supporters (65 percent)” – the newspaper reports.

In the case of current opposition voters (Razem, PiS, Confederation), the vast majority (92 percent) expect it to hit the ruling coalition. “Meanwhile, 52 percent of undecided voters also believe that the KPO issue will be a problem for the October 15 coalition. The KPO matter is judged negatively both by those very interested in politics (82 percent), those following politics closely (62 percent), moderately interested (81 percent), and slightly interested (86 percent).”

“What does this mean? Nothing good for the ruling coalition” – the summary reads.
