“If it were the case that Putin entered Poland (…), where would we secure Polish children? In Germany. I have a question I ask myself (…), what is the point of constantly insulting Germans, what is the point of spitting in the face of a nation that lies on our western border?” asked today on Polsat News Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Speaker of the Sejm.
Today on Polsat News, the Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, referred mainly to Polish-Ukrainian relations and the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland to strip Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.
The further part of the article follows the video material. “The question is whether, after this decision by President Nawrocki, the situation will calm down. Or are we rather heading toward conflict? (…) If Zelenskyy does not come to Gdańsk, is that a good idea for business in the reconstruction of Ukraine?” said Czarzasty.
He stated that “he wants to stand aside from the stupidity that occurred on the Ukrainian side.” At one point, however, he turned his attention to Germany.
“I believe that when there is a war beyond our borders, we should be unanimous in as many matters as possible. When there is a threat, Poles can behave beautifully. There has not been such a situation for a long time, and I spoke about this in the Ukrainian parliament. Ukrainians entrusted a million of their children, for a year, for ‘safekeeping’, to ensure their safety with Poles” he pointed out.
“If, God forbid – and we are doing everything to prevent it, NATO, the USA, our friend, the EU, which we strengthen as much as we can – if it were the case that Putin entered Poland (…), where would we secure Polish children? In Germany. I have a question I ask myself (…), what is the point of constantly insulting Germans, what is the point of spitting in the face of a nation that lies on our western border? If not the West, not a strong EU, then what? What is the alternative direction? Because the north and the south are also the EU” he stated.
Is a dispute over memory and justice really “spitting in the face”? Especially in the context of growing nationalist and revisionist tendencies in Germany.
In Gazeta Polska Codziennie, Dr. Michał Kuź pointed to the progressing neo-imperialization of Germany.
“So far, German policy toward Poland has had the character of a carrot-and-stick approach. However, during the December intergovernmental consultations, it turned out that regardless of our – historically and ethically justified – demands, the carrot simply disappeared” he indicated.
