“Ukraine has placed its bets on Germany. This is a mistake on their part, but they are the ones governing Ukraine, and they have chosen this path for themselves. We, however, are responsible for Poland, and our task is to safeguard our own interests,” Mariusz Błaszczak stressed. The former minister of national defence was a guest on First Interview of the Day on TV Republika.
During the NATO summit, Presidents Karol Nawrocki and Volodymyr Zelensky held talks. Speaking to the media, the Polish leader emphasised that the meeting had brought no breakthrough on historical issues.
Tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv have not eased since Ukraine decided to name a military unit after the “Heroes of the UPA.”
Mariusz Błaszczak addressed the situation on TV Republika.
“Ukrainians perceive Donald Tusk’s government as one that is not independent, and that is pursuing a German agenda. They have therefore placed their bets on Germany. This is a mistake on their part, but they are the ones governing Ukraine, and they have chosen this path for themselves. We, however, are responsible for Poland, and our task is to safeguard our own interests,”
he said on First Interview of the Day, hosted by Andrzej Gajcy.
He stressed that the responsibilities of the Polish authorities include protecting historical memory and preserving the memory of the victims of genocide. He recalled that it is necessary to introduce a ban on the promotion of Banderism, which he said should be treated on a par with Nazism and communism. A second demand, he added, should be to block Ukraine’s accession to the European Union in the context of protecting Poland’s interests, particularly in agriculture.
