“Tusk has deliberately staged a lawless spectacle – a witch hunt against me – in order to drown out the media coverage of the oncology crisis. We must not allow this. The media must sound the alarm and loudly demand the government’s response, because these people need immediate help. They are fighting for their lives,” appeals former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro on X.
On Friday, the Sejm voted to lift Zbigniew Ziobro’s parliamentary immunity. It also approved his detention and arrest. Following this, the prosecutor issued a decision to bring 26 criminal charges against him and to have him forcibly escorted by Internal Security Agency officers to the prosecutor’s office.
Ziobro responded to the government’s actions in a post on X on Saturday. He claimed that the investigation against him is meant to cover up the collapse of the healthcare system.
“Denying cancer patients medical assistance is like passing a sentence, for some, the most tragic one. In cancer treatment, every single day counts – literally. I know this well, as an oncology patient myself, having heard many heartbreaking stories. According to the press, surgeries and therapies are now being postponed because the National Health Fund (NFZ) has run out of money for treatment,” he wrote.
He accuses that “Tusk has deliberately staged a lawless spectacle – a witch hunt – to mute the media coverage of the oncology crisis.”
“We must not allow this. The media must raise the alarm and loudly demand the government’s response, because these people need immediate help. They are fighting for their lives,” he concludes.
The Ministry of Health announced that, following talks with Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański, an additional 3.5 billion PLN in support has been allocated to the National Health Fund. This is how the government is patching a massive hole in the healthcare system – for now, only until the end of 2025.
