As reported by TVN24, Waldemar Żurek has appointed an investigative team to examine the entry of a group of Telewizja Republika journalists into the National Prosecutor’s Office during the questioning of Tomasz Sakiewicz. Notably, the team is reportedly to be led by Żurek’s close associate, prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek.
The incident the investigative team is expected to examine took place on May 20, during the questioning of Tomasz Sakiewicz at the National Prosecutor’s Office. A group of Telewizja Republika journalists, along with several lawmakers from Law and Justice (PiS), entered the building.
The MPs attempted to carry out a parliamentary inspection, but their efforts were allegedly obstructed. Their access to the building was facilitated by Deputy Prosecutor General Tomasz Janeczek, whom Waldemar Żurek later suspended for six months.
“On May 25, 2026, National Prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk submitted a letter to the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, requesting consideration of appropriate measures provided for under the Sejm’s Rules of Procedure in connection with suspected gross violations of the Principles of Parliamentary Ethics on May 20, 2026, at the premises of the National Prosecutor’s Office by Members of Parliament Krzysztof Lipiec, Maciej Małecki, Jan Mosiński, Agnieszka Wojciechowska van Heukelom and Andrzej Śliwka,” TVN24.pl quoted from a statement issued by the National Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the prosecution service, the MPs and Telewizja Republika journalists moved around the headquarters of the National Prosecutor’s Office in an unauthorized manner, although, as previously mentioned, they had been granted access to the building by Deputy Prosecutor General Tomasz Janeczek.
