Organizers of Poland’s Independence March expect over 100,000 participants in Warsaw on November 11, despite administrative efforts to block the event. The annual march celebrates Poland’s independence but has faced hurdles ahead of this year’s 15th edition.
Administrative Obstacles
Bartosz Malewski, President of the Independence March Association, stated that preparations have been hampered by various obstacles, including the refusal of Warsaw’s mayor, Rafał Trzaskowski, to allow the event. The association plans to challenge his decision in court, believing it is politically motivated.
Malewski argued that both the regional governor and the mayor did not base their decisions on objective criteria. The association intends to call Trzaskowski as a witness in court. The hearing is expected on October 16.
Jakub Kalus, Vice President of the Association, voiced confidence in the march’s continuation. “Only a madman would think an administrative decision can stop 100,000 Poles from celebrating on November 11,” he stated. The legal challenges have not deterred the organizers from their plans.
