Iga Świątek goes to the finals of French Open

On Thursday, at 6:30 pm Iga Świątek got information that she will face Sofia Kenin in the final of Grand Slam tournament on Roland Garros’s tennis court in Paris.

The Pole after the winning match wrote on Twitter: ‘There are no words, so I’ll just leave it here. FINAL!!!’. She won with the Argentinian qualifier Nadia Podoroska with 6-2 6-1 in the second semifinal.

‘I’m kind of surprised because I would never have thought before the tournament that I would play so good here, but on the other hand, I always knew that if I’m going to be in the final of a grand slam, it’s going to be at the French Open’ – said Świątek on the court in a post-match interview.

Świątek becomes the first Polish player who reaches the finale at Roland Garros in the Open Era since 1939 when Jadwiga Jędrzejowska lost to Simonne Mathieu of France. The seven-slam champion Mats Wilander said on Eurosport that ‘I genuinely think Iga can be the one. She doesn’t have any weakness, not one’.

Iga Świątek is a Polish professional tennis player. She reached a career-high ranking of No. 5 as a junior. She won the French Open junior doubles crown and made the junior singles semifinals in 2018.
