Robert Lewadowski – the best footballer in the world in 2020

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has been recognised as 2020’s top player at the FIFA Football Best Awards. He won more votes than fellow nominees and football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

2020 was undoubtedly the best year of Robert Lewandowski’s career. The Polish athlete managed to win the European treble, the Champions League, Bundesliga, and DFL Pokal with Bayern Munich, topping the scorer’s charts in every one of those competitions. Lewandowski has been awarded the title for best striker and footballer of the year for UEFA. In the passing year Lewandowski was successful both individually and alongside his team. In the last season of the German Bundesliga, the Polish striker managed a career best 34 goals. The gala itself was just a formality. Lewandowski outclassed such soccer stars as Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi. Congratulations to the Pole came from all over the world, as well as from Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

“Huge congratulations to the FIFA Footballer of the Year. Bravo, Mr. Robert. For me as well as for many fans, you have been the best footballer for a long time, and now you have received this grand title confirming this. You are going down in history once again – the first Pole to be the best footballer in the world.” tweeted PM Morawiecki.

Although this year is dictated by a pandemic, perhaps the historical success of the Pole will allow us to take a small breather.
