Ambassador Joanna Wronecka, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York, was appointed by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, as the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon. Her main tasks will be to coordinate UN actions in Lebanon.
Ambassador Wronecka has many years of experience in both bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. Since 2017, she has been the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York. Previously, as the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was responsible for development cooperation, contacts with the Middle East and African countries and issues related to United Nations and human rights. Previously, she served as Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Egypt, Sudan, Morocco and Mauritania. Besides, as part of the European External Action Service, she was the Head of the European Union Delegation in Jordan.
The entrustment of the Ambassador of Wronecka to the role of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon recognises Polish’s growing role on the international stage and demonstrates the appreciation of Poland’s long-standing commitment to peace and security in the Middle East. An example of this is both the resumption of the Polish military presence in the structures of the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon from 2019, as well as the activity of Polish in the Warsaw Process and during membership of the UN Security Council in 2018-2019.
