    Will Poland buy Skłodowska-Curie’s house?

If the house of Marie Skłodowska-Curie near Paris, which is up for sale, is bought, a cultural-historical institution will be established there, showing Skłodowska-Curie’s achievements, but also our more recent scientific achievements – said on Tuesday the government spokesman Piotr Müller.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Twitter on Monday that he had ordered moves to buy the house of Marie Skłodowska-Curie near Paris that had been put up for sale.

On Tuesday, Polsat News asked government spokesman Piotr Müller about this. “As soon as there was information on the subject yesterday that indeed this house is up for sale, the Prime Minister immediately instructed our office in Paris to take steps to purchase this building,” he informed.

“This is an important symbol and scientific activity of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, but also a symbol of national pride when it comes to Nobel Prizes, it is absolutely the top after all,” the government spokesman added.

Asked what the government planned to organise in the building, he said that if it came to the purchase, “there would be a place to present the scientific achievements of Marie Skłodowska-Curie”.

“That is, a cultural and historical institution that could properly promote this history, but also probably show our more recent scientific achievements because there are quite a few of those as well” – Müller pointed out.

The 120-square-metre Peter and Marie Curie-Skłodowska house in Saint-Remy-Les-Chevreuse, in the Yvelines department near Paris, has been put up for sale for €790,000. The property requires renovation at an estimated cost of €200,000.
