The Moscow-based Polish community organization Polish House resumed meetings on Sunday after a break had been caused by the coronavirus pandemic. For over a year, rehearsals and classes have been held online. On Sunday, activists encouraged new people to join the Polish House.
“This is our first meeting after the last one held at the end of February 2020,” the head of the Polish House Ewelina Szyszkowa told the media. She explained that the meeting after such a long break was specifically organized for young people in the age group from 18 to about 40. It is about people who want to “join the Polish House,” have “a desire to learn the Polish language,” get to know Polish traditions and “simply are among people with whom they have common roots,” said Szyszkowa.
“We received a lot of phone calls and emails asking when we could see each other, meet, talk, ask questions, find out what the Polish House organization is like,” she added.
During the meeting, various activities were presented, in which willing people can join. The sightseeing group takes care of Polish memorial sites in Moscow, visits forgotten or abandoned graves of Poles in Moscow cemeteries.
Wioletta Mackiewicz, who conducts Polish language classes for children and adults, will continue her classes. Students also prepare events related to Polish traditions, religious and patriotic holidays. During the pandemic they took part in about 10 competitions held online and sent their works to Poland.
The meeting of the Polish House took place following the sanitary regime: the participants sat dispersed, wearing protective masks.
The Polish House is a social organization bringing together several hundred people, some of whom are actively involved in day-to-day activities, while others appear less frequently, on the occasion of major holidays.
