Meeting of the V4, Bulgaria and Romania Ministers of Climate and Environment

The positions of the countries on the Fit 55 package and the implementation of the EU biodiversity strategy were the main topics of the meeting of ministers responsible for environment and climate issues of the Visegrad Group countries (V4) as well as Bulgaria and Romania. The meeting, attended by Minister Michał Kurtyka and Deputy Minister Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński, was organised as part of the Polish Presidency of the V4, which runs until 30 June this year.

“We are at a crucial point in the arrangements for the Fit 55 package, which will be published in a few weeks. It is, therefore, necessary to work together to find a common position on the package” – said Minister Michał Kurtyka.

“We look forward to balancing the Fit for 55 package so that reductions in all sectors are balanced while avoiding overloading some regions and some sectors” – indicated Deputy Minister Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the implementation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030.

As Minister Kurtyka underlined the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 sets ambitious targets to protect Europe’s biodiversity, which is the EU’s response to the global biodiversity crisis and an important part of the European Green Deal.
