An extraordinary exhibition of Zdzisław Beksiński’s works

Agra-Art Auction House organized a great exhibition of paintings by Zdzisław Beksiński. Several dozen works come from the closed Museum of East European Art in Osaka, Japan.

The exhibition at Agra-Art is entitled “Paris – Osaka – Warsaw”. The title refers to the fact that in 1990 Piotr Dmochowski, a Parisian art dealer and Beksiński collector, sold several dozens of the master’s paintings to the Japanese. The paintings were purchased at the time for $1 million and were presented in a museum in Osaka. After the closure of the museum, the paintings returned to Warsaw and are now on display.

The only opportunity to see more than 40 oil works by Zdzisław Beksiński from the famous Japanese collection is the exhibition, which runs until September 4, 2021, at the Agra-Art Auction House Gallery.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a special publication – an album with reproductions of all paintings included in the Japanese collection (also by Jacek Yerka, Jerzy Duda-Gracz, Marian Michalik), with an introduction by Tadeusz Nyczek, an expert in Beksiński’s art. During the exhibition, there are also open meetings and panels, among others on the enigmatic history of the Japanese collection, the relationship of Zdzisław Beksiński’s work with the culture of the Far East, as well as on the phenomenon of the artist’s economic success on the art market in recent years.

“Prices of Beksiński’s works have increased in the last two years. This year, the average sale price is PLN 300-500 thousand. As recently as 2017-2018, the artist’s paintings cost around PLN 100,000 at the most (…) The future of the market belongs to Beksiński,” wrote “Rzeczpospolita”.
