There will be a new public holiday

The Senate unanimously supported the act on the establishment of a new public holiday – the National Day of the Victorious Wielkopolskie Uprising. The holiday is to commemorate the victorious uprising of Poles against Germany in 1918-1919 and will be celebrated on December 27, the anniversary of the outbreak of the insurrection.

The president’s legislative initiative responds to the voices of community representatives, patriotic activists, and local authorities from Wielkopolska (Greater Poland – region of west-central Poland).

“In tribute to the heroes – participants of the national uprising of 1918-1919, who liberated Greater Poland from German rule and incorporated it into the reborn Republic of Poland,” we can read in the preamble to the law, in which subsequent articles referring to declaring 27 December as the National Day of the Victory of the Greater Poland Uprising and a public holiday.

Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family and Social Policy, announced on Thursday on the website Albicla.com about the decision of the Senate.

“The Senate unanimously supported the act on establishing a new public holiday – the National Day of the Victory of the Greater Poland Uprising. This holiday will fall on December 27 – the anniversary of the uprising outbreak in Wielkopolska,” we read in the politician’s post.
