As a result of a mistake in identifying the body, a man was buried under the name of the one who is alive. The case went to the prosecutor’s office to restore the identities of the two men,” informed the press officer of the Kalisz police, warrant officer Anna Jaworska-Wojnicz.
The case began last December 28, when a man’s corpse was found in Kalisz. According to police officers, it might have been the body of a 45-year-old known to them with no fixed abode.
After it had been determined that the death had occurred from natural causes, the deceased’s father was notified. The man confirmed that it was his son and buried him on December 31.
On January 1, police were approached by a family reporting a 44-year-old man missing. Police officers initiated a search. “Two days later, they spotted a man on the street whom they had previously presumed dead,” Jaworska-Wojnicz said.
While all the circumstances were being clarified, it turned out that the 44-year-old man, who had been being sought, was buried as a living 45-year-old man.
The case went to the prosecutor’s office to restore the identities of the two men.
