Iga Świątek defeated Estonian tennis player Kaia Kanepi 4:6, 7:6 (7-2), 6:3 in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. The Pole, who reached the last four of a Grand Slam for the second time and is making her debut in Melbourne, will now play against American Danielle Collins.
Set at number seven, Świątek faced the 115th-ranked and 16 years older Kanepi for the first time.

The Pole is the winner of the French Open two years ago. Apart from that edition of the Paris event, she has never reached a Grand Slam semifinal again until now.
