TAURON to build the largest photovoltaic farm in Poland

The photovoltaic panels installed at the photovoltaic farm in Mysłowice will have a target capacity of 100 MW. It will be the largest such installation in Poland. The farm will be located on a reclaimed landfill. The investment will be realized thanks to the funds obtained from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

The PV farm will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will involve the commissioning of approximately 37 MW, while the second phase envisages the construction of an installation with a capacity of approximately 60 MW. The construction of the first stage will be subsidized by the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment.

Work on the project site will begin in the first quarter of 2022. In Mysłowice, 94 thousand photovoltaic panels will be installed, covering a total area of 16 ha, which corresponds to as many as 22 soccer fields. It is estimated that the installation will produce 39,000 MWh of green energy per year, which corresponds to the annual needs of 16,000 households while reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 30,000 tons. The first electricity will flow from the farm in 2023.

“The farm in Mysłowice is yet another implementation of the photovoltaic power plant construction programme on post-industrial sites belonging to the TAURON Group. With this approach, brownfield sites are being redeveloped. In this case, an additional environmental advantage is the use of post-industrial land for the construction of a green energy source,” says Sebastian Gola, President of TAURON Wytwarzanie.
