The opening ceremony of the 24th Winter Olympic Games began in Beijing at the National Stadium, known as the “Bird’s Nest.” Among the guests is Polish President Andrzej Duda.
The centerpiece of the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Games, which is expected to last about two hours, will be the lighting of the Olympic torch.
The traditional parade of athletes will be held beforehand. The Polish flag will be carried by the snowboarder Aleksandra Król and the speed skater Zbigniew Bródka, the Sochi Olympic 1500 m champion.

Beijing is the first city to host both the Winter and Summer Games, which were held in the Chinese capital in 2008. This is at the same time the third consecutive Games in Asia – after the “white” ones in Pyongyang in 2018 and the summer ones in Tokyo, which were held with a one-year delay due to pandemic.
