The closing ceremony of the XXIV Winter Games was in Beijing’s National Stadium, the Bird’s Nest. During this event, the organizers symbolically handed over the Olympic flag to the hosts of the next Olympics Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The opening ceremony took place on 4 February.
A total of 2871 athletes from 91 nations competed at the Winter Games. Poland with bronze was placed 27th in the medal table together with Latvia and Estonia.
