Some of the most legendary artists such as Imagine Dragons and Green Day resigned from touring in Russia and Ukraine due to recent events. They condemn the actions of Vladimir Putin and say words of support to civilians and soldiers fighting against Russian aggression. Following them, Iggy Pop, Franz Ferdinand, and HEALTH resigned from concerts in Russia as well. One of the first people to do that was a Russian rapper Oxxxymiron, who went on the streets to protest against the invasion of Ukraine.
“I can’t entertain you when Russian bombs are falling on Ukraine”, he said on a video posted to Instagram. He also urged his fellow countrymen to participate in strikes against the war.
Polish artists don’t stay indifferent either. Top Polish rapper, Taco Hemingway, donated 100,000 PLN to the Polish Center of International Help which is currently helping Ukrainian refugees. He made an appeal to his fans to donate any amount of money, as “strength is in number and solidarity. That’s the power every tyrant is scared of.” You can see his plea on his Instagram Highlights.
Young Leosia, a rising Polish pop star, also showed her support for Ukraine. She announced that she will participate in a protest “No More War” taking place on Thursday, March 3rd, starting from Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw. The protesters will call for the end of military actions, no more usage of fossil fuels which took a major part in financing Russian operations and to add Ukraine to the European Union. The manifest is organized by Fridays for Future, a youth-led movement demanding action to prevent a climate crisis.
