The captain of the Polish national football team Robert Lewandowski talked about the decision to disqualify Russia and Poland’s advance to the final of Path B of the World Cup in Qatar.
On Tuesday, the International Football Federation (FIFA) officially confirmed that the meeting with Russia scheduled for March 24 will not take place and that Poland will bye to the final.
“In addition, subsequent to the decision of 28 February 2022 taken jointly with the UEFA Executive Committee to suspend all Russian teams from participation in both FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice, the Bureau of the FIFA Organising Committee decided that Poland will receive a bye to the final of Path B due to take place on 29 March 2022, in which they will face the winners of the match between Sweden and the Czech Republic,” FIFA informed.
“I don’t think any of us imagined a different situation. I think this is the right decision. It would probably be difficult to choose the team to play within the semi-final of the play-off, instead of Russia, because any team that was not chosen might feel disadvantaged. The most important thing for us is to focus on the preparation, on this second game, to play it as well as possible and to do everything possible to advance to the World Championship,” Lewandowski on Polsat Sport Premium after his match in the Champions League said.
Poland will play with the winners of the match between Sweden and the Czech Republic on March 29. Czesław Michniewicz will make his debut as coach of the Red-White team.
