Iga Świątek qualified for the 1/8 final in Indian Wells [VIDEO]

Iga Świątek reached the 1/8 final of the prestigious WTA hardcourt tennis tournament in Indian Wells (prize pool of $8.37 million). In the third round, the Pole beat Danish Clara Tauson 6:7 (3), 6:2, 6:1.

The world’s fourth 20-year-old Świątek had a free pass in the first round. She defeated Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina 5:7, 6:0, 6:1. When she met Tauson, she also had big problems in the first set. After a fiercely contested sixth game (a total of 16 points from the two players) she broke the opponent’s service and went 4-2 in the lead, but the Danish quickly led to 4:4 and it occurred that the tie-break was much better.

“Well, I’m getting more and more experience in games where I lose the first set, so I’m getting better and better. Yesterday, I saw Rafa Nadal, and he was in trouble, too, but he made it, so he inspired me again. I’m well prepared, I feel great, so keep it up,” Iga Świątek shortly after the duel said and thanked a group of compatriots who cheered on her from the grandstand for their support.
