Beijing’s current stance on the war in Ukraine is not optimistic. The United States has taken diplomatic measures to dissuade China from supporting the Russian armed forces.
“China’s support for the Russian invasion, including by increasing misinformation about NATO and the Russian war in Ukraine, is worrying,” Deputy Head of US Diplomacy Wendy Sherman announced on Wednesday at a meeting with the Permanent Representatives of the Member States of the North Atlantic Alliance.
On Wednesday, U. S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made a phone call with his Chinese Minister of National Defense General Wei Fenghe, the first since the start of President Biden’s administration more than a year ago.
Reuters explains that the communication deadlock, which Americans saw as increasingly threatening, was broken because they feared Beijing might provide military aid to Russia to support Moscow’s war against Ukraine.
