Pyrkon is the biggest festival of fantasy media in Poland. Besides stands with fantasy books, comics and games there are author meetings, games and lectures on specific motifs. This year’s edition takes place from June 17th to 19th, and among the authors will be Rebecca F. Kuang, Samantha Shannon and Robert Wegner.
The first day is dedicated to games. At 2 P.M. on Friday will take place competition in Tetris, and an hour later – a training jugger, a sport-inspired by the movie “The Blood of Heroes.” At 5 P.M., a cosplay competition will start. Participants will draw losses with character names and will have 4 hours to create outfits that will resemble them. They can use only materials available at the site. Also from 5 P.M., various authors will start autographing their novels, including Katarzyna Niemczyk, Katarzyna Witerscheim, Dave Rodgers and Kaioh. At 6P.M there will be Samantha Shannon, the author of “The Priory of the Orange Tree,” and from 6 P.M. – Rebecca F. Kuang, the author of “The Poppy War” series.
On Saturday, June 18th will take place exercises on duelling with daggers and long swords. The classes will be supervised by professionals. Autographing stands will be open from midday, and among the authors will be Jacek Dukaj, Marta Falkowska, Jason Durall, Kenneth Hite & Mike Mason. Besides writers, there will also be dubbing actors and the GF Darwin team, who post videos about historical figures on YouTube and already have over 900 thousand subscribers. At 3:30 P.M. there will be a lecture on genetics and how much can scientists read from the DNA, and at 4:30 Krzysztof Pielaszek, Katarzyna Niemczyk, Bartosz Sztybor and Katarzyna Witerscheim will talk about working for American publishing houses as Polish authors. Later, writers such as Andrzej Pilipiuk and Rafał Kosik will talk about their experience in the publishing industry.
On the last day (June 19th) there will also be games like Tetris and author meetings with Edward James Olmos, Tobiasz Piątkowski, Bartosz Sztybor and Michał Cholewa. At 11:30 A.M. there will be a lecture about space mission simulations conducted by Agnieszka Elwertowska. The festival will end at 4 P.M. with a summary of the event and all the thankyous.
