WIMBLEDON 2022: Three victories, one loss and one horror

Three Polish women tennis players won their matches in the first round of Wimbledon on Monday. Magda Linette, Maja Chwalińska and Katarzyna Kawa were happy with their advancement to the second round of the Grand Slam tournament. Kamil Majchrzak did not manage to win over Kokkinakis. Hubert Hurkacz, after a very tough and long match, was not able to defeat Spaniard.

Linette‘s superb game started in the fourth game at 2:1, when she made several great shortcuts at the net and played very well in her games. The set went completely her way – Linette won 6:1 after just 26 minutes.

Magda Linette (Poland) – Fernanda Contreras Gomez (Mexico) 6:1, 6:4

Maja Chwalińska made an excellent start to her Wimbledon adventure. The 20-year-old, making her debut in the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament, defeated the much higher-ranked Katerina Siniakova 6:0, 7:5.

Even though in the first round, Maja Chwalińska lost to the experienced and much higher-ranked Czech, she advanced to the further stage of the Grand Slam tournament in excellent style. The result of the first set, which Chwalińska won without losing a game, deserves special praise.

Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic, WTA 79) – Maja Chwalińska (Poland, WTA 170) 0:6, 5:7

Katarzyna Kawa defeated Rebecca Marino 6:4, 3:6, 7:5 in the first round of Grand Slam Wimbledon. Both players put on a gripping show and it was the details that made the difference. The Pole proved her unerring resilience in the crucial moments and secured her promotion.

Hubert Hurkacz had an extremely tough run in the first round. Last year’s semi-finalist against Fokina’s Alejandro Davidovich started badly. The Spaniard dropped the first two sets, and the dramatic clash was interrupted twice by rain.

Unfortunately, in the deciding moments, it was the Spaniard who played more effectively and sealed his surprise victory. The Pole was believed to be a potential winner of this year’s Wimbledon by experts. He crashed out after the first round.

This match s called one of the worst in any tournament. Full of emotions and turn of events.

    Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (Spain, ATP 37) – Hubert Hurkacz (Poland, ATP 10) 7:6 (4), 6:4, 5:7, 2:6, 7:6 (8)

It started well. Kamil Majchrzak (ATP 91) won the first game and in the second he tried to prevent his opponent from serving. However, Thanasi Kokkinakis (ATP 79) did not give up. Then the match was interrupted by rain.

When the players returned to the court, Kokkinakis again started to make up for the loss. He managed to break Majchrzak and took the lead. He held that lead until the end of the set and won it.
