President Thanks Iga Świątek: “For Every Hard-Fought Point, for the Tears of Emotion!”

“In the name of the Republic of Poland – thank you! For every point won with strength of spirit, for the tears of emotion that welled up in the eyes of millions of Poles, for the strength that flows from your humility, character, and extraordinary talent,” wrote President Andrzej Duda on Twitter, congratulating Iga Świątek on her victory at Wimbledon.

Iga Świątek claimed victory in the Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in spectacular style. The Polish tennis star triumphed on the grass courts of London in a one-sided match against Amanda Anisimova, whom Świątek defeated 6–0, 6–0. Congratulations have been pouring in from all sides, including from the highest-ranking Polish politicians.

“Ms. Iga! Today, on the grass courts of Wimbledon, you wrote a chapter not only in the history of Polish sport but also in the history of Polish pride,” President Duda wrote.

“In the name of the Republic of Poland – thank you! For every point won with strength of spirit, for the tears of emotion that welled up in the eyes of millions of Poles, for the strength that flows from your humility, character, and extraordinary talent,” he added.

He also extended his congratulations “on behalf of myself and all compatriots at home and abroad.”
