Permanent HQ for US Army’s V Corps in Poland

US President Joe Biden announced that the US would be strengthening its military presence in Europe. He also added that it would create permanent headquarters of the US Army’s V Corps in Poland.

“Today I’m announcing the United States will enhance our force posture in Europe and respond to the changing security environment as well as strengthening our collective security,” Biden said on Wednesday.

“In Poland, we’re going establish a permanent headquarters, the US Fifth Army Corps, and strengthen the US-NATO interoperability across the entire eastern flank,” Biden said.

He also said that the US would establish a permanent headquarters of the US Army’s V Corps in Poland and send two additional F-35 fighter jet squadrons to the UK.

The US president also noted that an attack on one member of NATO was an attack on all its members and that NATO would be prepared to counter threats from any direction: land, sea or air.

A new Strategic Concept, a key document that will contain the Alliance’s goals and objectives for the next decade, is to be adopted at a NATO summit that takes place today (June 30). The summit is attended, among others, by US President Joe Biden, Polish President Andrzej Duda and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Poland is also represented at the summit by the head of the Ministry of Defence, Mariusz Blaszczak, and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zbigniew Rau.
