Aleksandra Lisowska won the gold medal in the women’s marathon at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. The Pole reached the finish line at a time of 2:28:36. Lisowska is the first Pole ever to win a medal in a marathon at the European Championship!
Lisowska ran in the lead of the marathon from the very beginning. About 10 kilometres before the finish line, the Pole, along with several rivals, started to speed up. Several minutes later, the 31-year-old took the lead, which she did not give up until the end. This is the first medal for Poland at the European Athletics Championships, which began today.

Second place went to Croatian Matea Parlov Kostro (2:28:42), and third place to Dutchwoman Nienke Brinkman (2:28:52).
That’s not all! Polish women also won the bronze medal in the Women’s team Marathon! Germany was first with the time of 7:28:48, the silver medal went to Spain (7:39:25), and Poland was third with the time of 7:40:54.
