US Open: Iga Świątek in the third round

Iga Światek breezed through two rounds of the US Open without losing a set. On Thursday, the leader of the women’s tennis ranking beat Sloane Stephens 6:3, 6:2 without any problems. The Pole will play for the 1/8 final of the Grand Slam tournament against the American Lauren Davis.

Iga Świątek, after a walk-off in the first round of the Grand Slam US Open, was not forced to make much of an effort in her next duel either. After defeating Jasmine Paolini in two short sets, the World No. 1 ranked female tennis player was similarly defeated by the hosts’ Sloane Stephens.

Already in the first set, Iga broke the rival, although the American responded immediately, it was probably more the result of the Pole’s momentary lack of concentration than Stephens’ sensational play. Not much more than half an hour had passed and both tennis players could have been preparing for the second set.

Here, too, the 21-year-old dictated the conditions. She took the first opportunity to break point and then steadily increased her lead. By the time there was 4:0 and it was clear that Stephens was not going to cause a sensation in this match.
