Private Cessna 551 jet with 4 people on board crashed in the Baltic Sea

According to the Swedish Maritime Administration’s rescue centre – a private Cessna 551 jet crashed in the Baltic Sea, near the Latvian coast, with four people on board.

“A Coast Guard plane dispatched to the scene found fragments of the jet and oil,” reported the institution’s spokesman Lars Antonsson.

According to the newspaper Dagens Nyheter, the aircraft, flying from Spain, was due to land in Kiel in northern Germany, but unexpectedly continued at a high altitude over the Baltic Sea. German and Danish fighter jets intervened, whose pilots observed no one in the cockpit of the Cessna. There was also no radio contact with the aircraft.

The Swedish Maritime Administration undertook rescue operations as the aircraft flew near Gotland and then headed towards Latvia.
