The Polish national football team lost 0:2 to the Netherlands in the evening Nations League match played in Warsaw. The goals for the visitors were scored by Cody Gakpo and Steven Bergwijn after two well-rehearsed actions. Despite the good moments, overall, throughout the game, the Poles lacked the finishing touch in key actions.
Cody Gakpo finished in the 14th minute with a low centre from the right wing. Despite the presence of as many as six White and Red players, he beat Szczęsny from close range. The first more interesting Polish action took place in the 25th minute, but Zielinski’s finishing pass to Lewandowski was off target. Then, in the 37th minute, a brilliant action by Piotr Zielinski, using Krychowiak and Lewandowski, resulted in a shot by Nikola Zalewski. However, the alert Pasveer remained in the position.
In the 53rd minute, the Poles had a great opportunity to draw when, after a pass from Zielinski and a centre from Frankowski, Arkadiusz Milik missed from close range. Moments later Frankowski sent an equally great pass to Szymanski, but his shot was off target. In the 60th minute, the Dutch responded by stepping up their game and Steven Bergwijn beat Szczesny with a flat shot after a pat with Vincent Janssen. In the end, the visitors had two more shots from the distance, but both definitely off target.
In the 85th minute, Weghorst fouled Szczęsny coming out for the ball, which resulted in a yellow card for both – as Szczęsny moved towards the tall striker and pushed him away. It is worth mentioning the debut in the national team of Pogoń Szczecin’s young player Mateusz Łęgowski.
