    Poland takes over the command of NATO's Spearhead Force

    From January 1, Poland takes over the command of NATO “Spearhead Force”, or very high readiness forces capable of responding in just a few days. Alliance General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg thanks for contribution to community defense.

    Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), or our “Spearhead Force”, is a significant contribution to joint defense and a strong presentation of Poland’s capabilities. These forces can be deployed immediately to defend any allied country against any threat, ” Stoltenberg said, thanking Poland for taking command. Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, popularly called NATO Spearhead Force, were created in response to the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014. They have been functioning as part of Russia’s deterrence strategy since its inception. In 2020, the lead role of VJTF will be performed by the 21st Podhale Rifles Brigade, supported by units from the 12th Mechanised Division and the 3rd Transport Aviation Wing, Military Police as well as experts.
