The EU will not introduce a mechanism combining EU funds with the observance of the rule of law, this belief was expressed by the head of the Polish Prime Minister Office, Michał Dworczyk, on Tuesday.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will take part in the extraordinary EU summit on the budget for 2021-2027 in Brussels on Thursday. Minister Michał Dworczyk told private television TVN24 that no final decisions will be made during this meeting. According to Dworczyk, the discussion on the EU budget is expected to last for several months as there are still large differences to be worked out and that it would be premature to talk about specific numbers. “We want to negotiate a good budget for Poland and we know that efforts to obtain funds for agriculture are very important”, Dworczyk said (quoted by PAP – Polish Press Agency). He emphasized that Poland has the support of other countries in this matter, including France. He also said that he was convinced that the EU would not introduce a mechanism combining EU funds with the observance of the rule of law. According to him, such a mechanism would be incompatible with EU treaties. “Even EU lawyers have said it”, Dworczyk added.
