Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Law and Justice (PiS), met with residents of Wierzchosławice to support Karol Nawrocki, a civic candidate for president. During his speech, he focused on the presidential campaign, accusing Civic Platform (PO) of manipulation and warning of the consequences of electing Rafał Trzaskowski.
Kaczyński on the Elections
Jarosław Kaczyński arrived in Wierzchosławice to back Karol Nawrocki—a civic candidate for president of Poland. He emphasized that the location was not chosen by accident, referencing Wincenty Witos, a leader of the peasant movement:
“We are in a special place. Right next to us, Wincenty Witos was born, grew up, and ran his farm.”
According to Kaczyński, the current campaign by the ruling party is based on lies and manipulation:
“These elections concern various issues, but their defining feature—perhaps not for the first time, but now with unprecedented intensity—is that those defending the status quo, including Mr. Trzaskowski’s candidacy, are lying. They have always lied. Civic Platform was built on lies, used deception, and did not respect democracy because democracy, as has been said, requires honesty—it means doing what you promised the people.”
The most significant part of his speech was listing four “types of lies” that, in his view, PO employs:
“These lies can be divided into four categories. The first concerns what they have already done but claim they haven’t. The second involves what they likely plan to do—there are reasons to believe so—while denying it. The third category relates directly to agriculture, covering issues already being implemented. Finally, the fourth type of lie concerns our sovereignty and freedom. We want to be a sovereign country—at least all patriots do—and we want to be free people.”
His speech also included warnings about the consequences of electing Rafał Trzaskowski as president. According to Kaczyński, his presence in the Presidential Palace would threaten the country’s development, citizens’ security, and Poland’s sovereignty.
