    Judges against Poland

A storm broke out after the submission by the Law and Justice of a draft bill on the structure of common courts. The opposition calls it a ‘repressive act’. According to politicians of the opposition, the project violates the Polish constitution. According to the politicians of the ruling party, the bill is completely constitutional, and the hysteria around it is intended only to fuel political conflict.

”Introduced in the middle of the night, on the day of the anniversary of imposing martial law, special law is a disgrace that breaks the judges’ backbones.
Every judge who will wear the uniform of the Law and Justice party, will be condemned and held to account”- says Grzegorz Schetyna, Civil Coaltion party.

”This law can’t be adopted because of one reason. It is unconstitutional. It interferes with the independence of judges and prohibits them from making a ruling on the basis of the constitution. The constitution is the highest act in the light of the law. It is judges’ duty to respect the constitution”- says Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka, Deputy Marshal of the Senate, The Spring party.

”The actions that were taken are based on the constitution, in accordance with the Polish law. The judges are not here to take care of politics”- says Paweł Mucha, Deputy Head of the Chancellery of the President of Poland.
