On Wednesday, the celebration of the National Independence Day took place across Poland. This year the celebrations had a unique course due to the restrictions related to the COVID-19 epidemic. Regaining independence was commemorated, among other places, in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan and Gdansk.
In Warsaw, President Andrzej Duda together with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Marshals of the Sejm and Senate, Elżbieta Witek and Tomasz Grodzki, and the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, laid a wreath in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
In his TV address to the nation, Andrzej Duda emphasized that a pandemic is a time of making difficult, unpopular decisions. “Thank you to all those who follow the recommendations, do not endanger themselves and others. Today it is an expression of patriotism. It is a testimony of what a truly civic, responsible attitude means. Thank you for it with all my heart!” the President said.
The solemn celebrations of the National Independence Day in Krakow began with laying flowers at the Monument to the Soldiers of Fighting Poland in Powiśle. Holy Mass for the Homeland, which was celebrated in the Wawel Cathedral, was chaired by Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski.
Clubs of “Gazeta Polska” joined the celebrations, incl. in Gliwice, Pruszków, Tczew, Starogard Gdański, Gdańsk, Skierniewice, Dzierżoniów, Piotrków Trybunalski.
