    Stanisław Witek, Husband of Former Sejm Marshal, Dies Following Lengthy Illness

    After a long and severe illness, on Saturday, April 13, Stanisław Witek, former activist of “Solidarity” and member of the Management Board of the Copper Basin Region, passed away. He was 71 years old.

    The death of the husband of the former Marshal of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, was announced on social media by the Law and Justice profile of the Legnica-Jelenia Góra district.

    ‘Today, at the age of 72, after a long and severe illness, Stanisław Witek, former member of the Management Board of the Copper Basin Region and activist of the educational Solidarity, has passed away. We extend our deepest condolences and our condolences to Elżbieta Witek and the entire family of the deceased,’ it was conveyed.

    Stanisław Witek was a graduate of the Historical Institute of the University of Wrocław, a long-standing member of ‘Solidarity’, and an active participant in the anti-communist opposition. During the period of martial law, he was arrested and sentenced to prison.

    After 1989, he continued to be involved in the activities of “Solidarity” in the Copper Basin region, and from 2002, he was a member of the Management Board.

    He was a Knight of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity. He was also honored with the Gold Badge of the National Education and Upbringing Section of ‘Solidarity’.
