President Duda Calls for Global System Reform at UN Summit

President Duda at UN: calls for global system reform, citing Russian aggression and need for stronger international law.

During the 79th UN General Assembly in New York, Polish President Andrzej Duda highlighted the need for reforms in the current global system. He stressed that the “multilateral system has become dysfunctional in many ways” and cannot effectively address key global challenges.

Duda pointed to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a prime example of this dysfunction. He underscored that as a permanent UN Security Council member, Russia should uphold the UN Charter. However, by attacking a sovereign nation, it forfeited this responsibility.

To restore faith in multilateralism and maintain global peace, Duda called for stronger international law. He emphasized that the UN must adapt to safeguard the global order, urging that those challenging the system must not gain influence.
