Wojciech Szczęsny Set to Join FC Barcelona on Wednesday

Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny is expected to sign with FC Barcelona on Wednesday, following a successful medical. Szczęsny has been in Barcelona since Monday, preparing for his move to the club. He passed his medical tests and met his future teammates, including Robert Lewandowski. However, due to the club’s focus on Champions League commitments, the official signing has been delayed.

    Emergency Signing for Barcelona

Szczęsny’s sudden return to football comes after Barcelona’s starting goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, suffered a long-term knee injury. As a free agent, Szczęsny was eligible to sign outside the transfer window. The 34-year-old, who recently retired, was chosen for his experience and close ties with Barcelona’s coach Hansi Flick from their time at Bayern Munich.

Once the contract is signed, Szczęsny will train with the squad and is expected to make his debut on October 20 against Sevilla. For now, Barcelona’s backup keeper Iñaki Peña will remain the first-choice goalkeeper. Szczęsny, a seasoned international with 84 caps for Poland, is eager to return to competitive football.
