Warsaw’s mayor, Rafał Trzaskowski, has allocated millions of public funds to LGBTQ+ initiatives for 2024. Among the funded projects are QueerMuzeum, a groundbreaking museum of queer history, and Lambda Warsaw’s intervention hostel for homeless LGBTQI+ individuals, supported with 640,000 PLN over three years.
Culture, Education, and Film Festival Backing
Projects such as the LGBT Film Festival and performances like “THREESOME” received significant funding. While these initiatives aim to promote inclusivity and celebrate LGBTQ+ history and culture, some of the content—like explicit films—has sparked debate about the use of public funds.
Expanding Queer Narratives in Education
Grants also supported educational and artistic initiatives, including workshops on transgender history and debates on equality in schools. Critics question whether such funding priorities align with the broader public interest.
Numerous other similar projects are being funded by the capital. As a candidate for the presidency of Poland, Rafał Trzaskowski should explain to Warsaw residents why public funds are being allocated to these initiatives.
