Protest in Warsaw: Defending Coal Power Plants and Polish Industry

On January 9, 2025, thousands of trade unionists from the Silesian-Dąbrowa “Solidarity” region, joined by members of OPZZ and the Forum of Trade Unions, will march in Warsaw. The protest aims to oppose the closure of coal power plants and defend Polish industry. Demonstrators will begin at 12:00 PM in front of the PGE headquarters (Mysia 2) before proceeding to the Ministry of State Assets. The event is set to conclude by 4:00 PM.

    Concerns Over Green Deal Policies
Protesters argue that the EU’s Green Deal policies threaten Poland’s energy security and industrial stability. Dominik Kolorz, a regional union leader, warns of mass unemployment, energy shortages, and the decline of Silesia if coal plants close.

    Energy Independence at Risk
Jarosław Grzesik of the Mining and Energy Secretariat highlights potential energy dependence on foreign sources, cautioning against gaps in the domestic energy supply and higher costs for imported electricity.
