Karol Nawrocki, the civic candidate supported by the Law and Justice Party (PiS) in Poland’s presidential race, unveiled a legislative package aimed at alleviating economic pressures on households. The proposed measures include reducing VAT on food from 5% to 0% and cutting VAT on electricity and gas from 23% to 8%. Nawrocki announced these initiatives during a consultation with business representatives in Warsaw, addressing rising living costs.
Future Initiatives and Campaign Plans
Nawrocki expressed his intent to submit the proposals to all parliamentary clubs and pledged to prioritize them if elected president. He plans to release his full electoral program in February, emphasizing that it will reflect ongoing consultations with the public. Nawrocki also revealed plans for a nationwide tour to meet voters and engage directly with their concerns.
During the press conference, Nawrocki condemned threats against Jerzy Owsiak, the founder of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, stating that the police should thoroughly investigate. While Nawrocki acknowledged the value of WOŚP, he reiterated his long-standing support for Caritas.
Election Timeline
The presidential election is scheduled for May 18, 2025. Nawrocki has committed to taking a leave of absence from his role at the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) to focus entirely on his campaign once the official election period begins.
