TV Republika has increased security measures after threats against its journalists. EIC Tomasz Sakiewicz asserts those responsible will face consequences.
TV Republika Faces Government Hostility
TV Republika, a prominent Polish news station, is facing increasing threats from top government officials. Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the station as “sick with hatred,” contributing to a tense and hostile environment. Equality Minister Katarzyna Kotula called the network a “hate-monger,” while Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski suggested revoking its broadcasting license.
Increased Security Measures Implemented
In response to these threats, TV Republika has strengthened security at its headquarters. Tomasz Sakiewicz, Editor-in-Chief of the station, stated: “Due to threats from the highest representatives of the government camp, as well as threats to the health and life of our journalists, we are strengthening the protection of our headquarters.” He emphasized that “the costs of this enhanced security will have to be covered by those responsible for the attacks on Republika.”
Commitment to Press Freedom
Despite escalating hostility, TV Republika remains committed to its mission of independent journalism.
