Russian drones struck Ukrainian energy infrastructure, cutting off electricity for more than 220,000 consumers in the Sumy Oblast in the north of the country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Wednesday. He added that during Wednesday’s talks with Russia in Turkey, the Ukrainian side would once again insist on the need for a complete ceasefire.
“Russian drones targeted energy infrastructure. As a result of the damage to these facilities, more than 220,000 users in the Sumy Oblast were left without electricity. That’s hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian families. This morning, most of the supply was restored,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.
“During the day, the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of Energy will present reports on the restoration process,” the head of state announced.
According to Zelensky, Ukrainians always rebuild what has been destroyed. “During today’s talks (with the Russians) in Turkey, Ukrainian representatives will once again insist on the need for an immediate and complete ceasefire, particularly the cessation of attacks on civilian infrastructure,” the president said.
Zelensky expressed gratitude to all repair crews and energy sector workers who ensure energy supply to citizens.
Representatives of Russia and Ukraine will meet in Istanbul for the third time this year. The portal Ukrainska Prawda reported that the main goal of Wednesday’s planned talks is to organize a meeting between the two countries’ leaders, Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.
