Romanian intelligence foiled a Russian-coordinated sabotage plot, arresting a Colombian operative targeting critical infrastructure.
Sabotage Plot Unveiled
Romanian intelligence services (SRI) intercepted a sabotage operation orchestrated from Russia. A 34-year-old Colombian national, Luis Alfonso Murillo Diosa, was arrested in July 2024 before executing the planned attack. Acting under direct instructions, Diosa documented potential targets, including oil wells and gas regulation stations in Ilfov County.
Covert Network Exposure
SRI investigations revealed Diosa’s ties to a broader European sabotage network managed by Russian intelligence proxies. Operating via encrypted apps, these proxies coordinated logistics, targets, and mission updates. Diosa, a former Colombian army soldier trained in reconnaissance, reported his activities through photographic evidence.
Foiled Threats to National Security
Diosa aimed to ignite fires or cause explosions at strategic industrial sites. His arrest by Romania’s DIICOT highlights Europe’s vulnerability to foreign-sponsored sabotage, emphasizing the importance of robust counterintelligence collaboration.
