The Polish Press Freedom Monitoring Center (CMWP SDP) has strongly condemned the dismissal of journalist Piotr Lisiewicz from his role as Chairman of the Program Council of Radio Poznań by the National Media Council (RMN). According to SDP, the decision violates Polish media law, which outlines appointment procedures but does not permit premature removal. This action is seen as an attack on journalistic independence, particularly given that even a former council member accused of serious crimes was not removed under similar circumstances.
Accusations of Censorship and Media Suppression
In addition to Lisiewicz’s removal, over 200 episodes of his long-running radio show Wywiad z chuliganem were mysteriously deleted from public access. SDP claims this is an act of censorship aimed at erasing the work of a respected journalist with over 30 years of experience. In response, masked demonstrators, calling themselves the “Guardians of Press Freedom,” protested outside Radio Poznań, while SDP urged RMN to reverse its decision and respect journalistic independence.
