The head of the Polish government, Mateusz Morawiecki, came to Brussels, where he took part in the Eastern Partnership summit, and then – in the meeting of the European Council. During the first meeting, the future of this initiative will be discussed in the context of readiness for various scenarios of events in the region.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki came to Brussels on Wednesday, where he took part in the Eastern Partnership summit. The main topic of the meeting was the future of the initiative in the context of preparation for various scenarios of the development of events in the region. On Thursday, the head of the Polish government will participate in the EU summit.

The Eastern Partnership is part of the European Neighbourhood Policy covering the EU’s eastern neighbours – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The aim of the initiative launched in 2009, initiated by Poland, supported by Sweden, is to intensify political relationships and economic integration with the six countries mentioned above.

However, representatives of the Belarusian government did not take part in the Wednesday meeting; in June, Minsk suspended its participation in the Eastern Partnership.

A joint declaration is planned to be adopted at the end of the summit.
